6th East Kilbride Scouts and Explorer Scouts Nail Their Hammock Camp!

The 6th East Kilbride Scouts and Explorer Scouts recently took their outdoor skills to new heights – literally! – with a hugely successful hammock camp. The young adventurers embraced the arboreal lifestyle, stringing up their hammocks amongst the trees for a unique and memorable night under the stars.

The camp, held recently, was a fantastic opportunity for both sections to learn and practice essential outdoor skills in a slightly different setting. Before settling down for the night, the Scouts and Explorers were busy perfecting their knot-tying techniques, learning how to safely and securely pitch their hammocks.

It wasn’t just about the practicalities, though. The Scouts also focused on the Leave No Trace principles, ensuring that their temporary camp had minimal impact on the natural environment. This included learning about proper waste disposal and how to pack everything out that they packed in.

Judging by the smiles and the buzz of excitement, the hammock camp was a resounding success. It offered a fantastic chance for the young people to develop their independence, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork in a fun and engaging way. Plus, there’s something truly special about falling asleep swaying gently in the fresh air, surrounded by nature.

Well done to all the 6th East Kilbride Scouts and Explorer Scouts who participated, and a huge thank you to the leaders who made this fantastic experience possible! Who knows what adventure they’ll hang out on next?
