Friendship and adventure were in the air as the 6th East Kilbride Scouts recently had the pleasure of hosting their counterparts from Ballerup, East Kilbride’s twin town in Denmark. It was a fantastic opportunity for the Scouts to connect, share cultures, and create some unforgettable memories before the Danish contingent headed off to a major international camp.
The day kicked off with a bang at the local footgolf course. The teams, a mix of Scottish and Danish Scouts, were a sight to behold as they combined the precision of golf with the power of football. The competition was fierce but friendly, with cheers and laughter echoing across the green. It was a brilliant way to break the ice and get everyone working together.
After a vigorous afternoon, it was time for a taste of true Scottish tradition. The group made a pilgrimage to the famous Kraken Chip Shop, a local institution known for its delicious suppers. The Danish Scouts were treated to a culinary tour of local favourites, from perfectly battered fish and chips to other classic chip shop fare (including deep fried pizza!) . It was a mouth-watering experience and a perfect chance to refuel.
As night fell, the adventure continued with an overnight camp, but with a unique twist. Instead of tents, the Scouts embraced the wilderness with a night spent in hammocks. Swaying gently between the trees, the Scouts shared stories, enjoying the serene atmosphere and the camaraderie of their new friends. It was a truly memorable way to end the day, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.
The following morning, after a hearty breakfast and a final round of goodbyes, the Ballerup Scouts packed up their gear. Their journey was far from over, however. They were off to the Auchengillan international camp for a week of global scouting. The 6th East Kilbride Scouts wished them well on their next adventure, proud to have been a part of their Scottish leg of the journey. The visit was a huge success, solidifying the bonds between the two twin towns and proving that the spirit of scouting knows no borders.
