We’ve always known that the spirit of adventure is alive and well in East Kilbride, and the incredible enthusiasm for the 6th East Kilbride Scout Group proves it! From learning essential life skills to forging lifelong friendships and exploring the great outdoors, Scouting offers young people a fantastic opportunity to grow and thrive.
However, the sheer popularity of our group has led us to a situation we never anticipated: our waiting list is now bigger than our current membership!
That’s right. More young people in our community are eager to join the fun, learn new things, and become part of the Scouting family than we currently have space for. It’s a testament to the amazing experiences our current Scouts are having and the dedication of our existing volunteer team.
But this also means that many enthusiastic youngsters are missing out on the incredible opportunities Scouting provides. They’re waiting patiently for their chance to pitch a tent, tie a knot, build a campfire, and embark on exciting adventures with their peers.
This is where you come in.
The key to unlocking these opportunities for the young people on our waiting list is simple: more adult volunteers.
You might be thinking, “Volunteering? I don’t have any Scouting experience!” or “I’m too busy!” But the truth is, you don’t need to be Bear Grylls or have a lifetime of camping under your belt to make a real difference.
What do our volunteers do?
Our volunteers come from all walks of life and contribute in countless ways. Whether you can spare a couple of hours a week to help run activities, have a specific skill you’d like to share, or are simply enthusiastic about supporting young people, there’s a place for you in the 6th East Kilbride Scout Group.
Here are just a few ways you could get involved:
- Team Leaders: Lead and inspire a section of young people (Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts) through engaging activities and programs.
- Team Members: Support the Section Leaders in delivering fun and safe sessions.
- Group Supporters: Help with the administrative tasks that keep the group running smoothly.
The Rewards are Immeasurable:
Volunteering with the Scouts isn’t just about giving back to the community; it’s also incredibly rewarding for you. You’ll:
- Make a real difference in the lives of young people.
- Develop new skills and gain valuable experience.
- Become part of a supportive and friendly team.
- Have fun and enjoy the adventure of Scouting.
- See the positive impact you’re having first-hand.
